Senator John McCain's eligibility as the republican candidate for the 2008 presidential election was questioned in concerns to his birthplace along the Panama Canal. As I previously didn't know myself, John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 and this raises doubts among individuals citing the constitution, where only a "natural born citizen" can take the office as president of the United States. Senator McCain was born on a military installation in the Canal Zone, as his father was stationed there as a soldier in the 1930's. Senator McCain's campaign advisor's, a well as numerous others in the political realm, are certain that McCain is constitutionally qualified to be the president of the United States. However, it does raise an unusually precedent as no other president to be sworn into office has ever been born outside of the fifty states in the US.
Personally, I view the issue as being somewhat ridiculous. While the constitution states that a president of the United States has to be a natural born citizen, as Senator McCain was born on a United States Military base, that is an area under the United States' jurisdiction and therefore should be considered a part of the United States, at least in terms of this case.

'hussein obama' remarks
Senator John McCain repudiated remarks made at a rally for himself where Senator Obama's middle name was mentioned three separate times when the presidential hopeful was being criticized. Senator Obama's heritage and ties to the Muslim religion and culture has been of continuous interest for those in the political realm, both for those who attempt to play it down and play it up, depending on what their political interests are. However, when the issue of Bill Cunningham, a conservative talk-show radio host mentioning Senator Obama's middle name three times was questioned, Senator McCain apologized. Senator McCain stated that Senator Obama was a "man of integrity" and such comments about his middle name were inappropriate at the rally and would not happen again. A spokesperson for Senator Obama respectfully stated their appreciation for Senator McCain's apology.
Senator Obama is in fact a practicing Christian and his middle name was given to him after his father, Barack Hussein Obama, sr, who was not Arabic, but rather Kenyan in origin. However, Senator Obama's name has often been the victim of criticism from the conservative realm, playing upon a stereotypical fear of those with links to Arabic culture and the Muslim religion after the attacks of 9/11, in an attempt to alienate him from mainstream America as a presidential hopeful.

praising of obama
Nation of Islam Minister, Louis Farrakhan, sang Obama praises today in a public address at the annual Savior's Day Celebration. He referred to Senator Obama as the "hope of the entire world" in the hope that the United States will change for the better if the presidential hopeful wins the democrat candidacy and then the office of the president. He also stated towards the Senator that "This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better. This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."
These were powerful words of endorsement for Senator Barack Obama coming from a source that may or may not be soaked in with respect from most Americans. Not to say that mainstream America will not listen to the words of Louis Farrakhan, but the general stereotypical sentiment against Arabic Americans and Islam could cause some prejudice towards these remarks. Especially when Louis Farrakhan compared Senator Obama to the founder of the Muslim religion, Fard Mohammed, who also had a black father and a white mother, stating that "A black man with a white mother became a savior to us, a black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall."
There were also small remarks made out against rival Senator Clinton, stating that she was a representative of politics of the past, a powerful statement in campaigns that are across the board preaching change and that she was practicing "dirty politics".

clinton furious at obama
Sparks flew in the accusations that Senator Clinton made towards here presidential democratic rival in concerns to mailers to voters the Senator sent out about positions on health care and NAFTA. Senator Clinton added a nice and tidy, "Shame on you, Barack Obama," at the end of her comments. While making her comments she had two of Obama's campaign mailers in her hand and said, "enough with the speeches and big rallies and then using tactics that are right out of Karl Rove's playbook." (which was an unfortunate slam against the former advisor to President Bush.)
Senator Obama however defended his mailings, stating that they were in fact accurate to Senator Clinton's posititions on NAFTA, stating that she supported the trade agreement while her husband was in office. He continued to state that "you can't be for something and take credit for an administration... and tehn when you run for president say that you didn't really mean what you said way back then. It doesn't work that like that."
The statement could have been with some bitterness as the Clinton campaign has done much to criticize Senator Obama's lack of experience in federal politics, while most of Senator Clinton's experience is riding upon the eight years she spent as first lady alongside her husband in the White House.

nader to run for president
The infamous presidential candidate from numerous campaigns, Ralph Nader, has announced that he plans to run for president again for the 2008 election as a third party candidate. The decision comes with plenty of groans from other members of the political realm as memories of both the 2000 and 2004 election come up. Nader was often blamed for the election of President Bush in both, as he took votes away from the Democrat candidate of which his positions would be more closely aligned.
Ralph Nader criticized the other top candidates for the presidential office, namely Senator Obama, Senator Clinton and Senator McCain, stated that they are too close to big business and that instead he will "shift the power from the few to many" if he wins the presidential office. Stating that most Americans are disenfranchised from both major parties, Republican and Democrat, and that "you take that framework of people feeling locked out, shut out, marginalized and disrespected. You go from Iraq, to Palestine to Israel, from Enron to Wall Street, from Katrina to the bumbling of the Bush administration, to the complicity of the Democrats in not stopping him on the war, stopping him on the tax cuts", he has decided in this context to run for president.
However, Governor Huckabee made the statement that considering what Nader's past encounters with politics has produced, Republicans should gladly welcome him as a third party candidate on the presidential ticket.

no vicepresidency candidacy for rice
Condeleeza Rice stated on Friday that she has no plans to join Senator McCain as a running mate if he becomes the official Republican candidate for the 2008 election. Speculations had been running that Secretary of State Rice was planning on being a potential running mate for McCain, however she refuted this with her comments about herself ever running for an elected office, saying, "I have always said that the one thing that I have not seen myself doing is running for elected office. I didn't even run for high school president. It's sort of not in my genes."
Secretary of State Rice has stated in the past that she had never intended ever as running for president, though comments about that have often been made. She additionally stated that it was not an ambition of hers to endorse or speak out for any candidate in the presidential election, whether as a running mate for vice president or not.

castro to meet marx?
Comments made in reference to the infamous dictator of Cuba by Senator John McCain were hardly warm this Friday. The presidential hopeful said for the former dictator that, "I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon." Karl Marx, the revolutionary and fore-thinker philosopher of communism during the 1800's, obviously has joined those resting in their graves long past in 1883. The implication that McCain was making was obviously that he hopes that the eighty-one-year-old former dictator will soon pass away himself.
Fidel Castro has retired from his position as the absolute leader of Cuba, stepping down with the expectation that his brother, Raul Castro will take over as head of state. Senator McCain said in reference to Castro's brother, "Raul is worse in many respects than Fidel was." McCain expressed other sentiments that the condition of Cuba will continue to grow worse under the regime of Raul Castro than it was under Fidel Castro.

mccain on obama
With McCain's nomination as the Republican candidate even more likely, McCain has begun a new smear campaign against likely Democratic candidate Senator Obama. Senator McCain said in reference to his presidential rival, "I will work hard to make sure Americans aren't deceived by an eloquent but empty call for change," and referred to Senator Obama as having the "confused leadership of an inexperienced candidate."
When questioned about the newly coined line, "eloquent but empty", a spokesperson for McCain's campaign stated that it was "a preview of things to come". However, according to Senator Obama, this preview of things to come is only a continuation of President Bush's policies for the past eight years. He accused McCain of "nothing more than a third term of George Bush's policies: more fear-mongering, more than a century of war in Iraq, and more budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthiest few at the expense of hardworking Americans."
The campaigns between McCain and Obama appear to be heating up against each other with this new development of friction between them. However, both campaigns appear to be under the guise that they are hoping to run a respectful and smear-free in their presidential campaign.
